The Binchotan is a stick of coal. A simple way to remove bad tastes and odors from tap water. It allows you to enjoy pure water while limiting your release of plastic materials into the environment and transforming tap water into mineralized water. It seems that Binchotan, on contact with water, releases certain minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium.
What is the history of Binchotan charcoal? The origins are not completely clear, but it is believed that a form of Binchotan charcoal (sometimes referred to as `` white charcoal '') was introduced to Japan by a Japanese monk and scholar called Kukai 1,200 years ago. . It was during the Edo period (17th century) that a man called Binchuya Chozaemon made it popular. How is it done? The sustainably sourced wood is placed in a kiln and charred at a relatively low temperature for a period of time, then towards the end of the process the kiln temperature is raised to around 1000 degrees Celsius to heat the wood red. The charcoal is then removed and quickly covered with a special powder made from earth, sand and ash, which gives the surface of the charcoal a whitish tint (explaining the name `` white charcoal ''). The rapid rise in temperature, followed by rapid cooling, incinerates the bark and leaves a smooth, hard surface. If you type it, you will hear a clear, metallic sound.
It is used by immersing it in a carafe of water (max of 2 liters). You just have to let it sit for a few hours and you're done: the water will be purified and mineralized. The duration of the stick has a lifespan of two or three months. Maintenance level, it is recommended to boil Binchotan for one minute, once a week, to purify it and optimize its absorption capacities. Always leave the stick for a few hours in the water so that the operation is complete. When you notice that its surface is getting dull and grayish, it's time to replace it. If the Binchotan breaks, do not worry, it does not lose its purifying properties! you can continue to use it in pieces! At the end of its life, you can ideally reduce it to crumbs and mix it with your soil, it is an excellent fertilizer, it will provide it with nutrients and regulate the pH level.
